Buying a membership means much more than "free" trips to your local museum or zoo. Check out these sites to find local organizations that participate in reciprocal programs, allowing you free entrance (or discounts) at other related places around the country or even within your state.
Association of Children's Museums: Check to see if your local museum participates in the ACM Reciprocal Program that gives access to 100+ children's museums. (http://childrensmuseums.org) Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC) Travel Passport Program: Access to science centers and museums, usually 90+ miles from originating member museum. (http://www.astc.org/) Association of Zoos and Aquariums: reciprocal programs. Check originating member zoo/aquarium to see which places are on the reciprocal list. (http://www.aza.org/FindZooAquarium/) Not all museums and zoos are members.

After your journey, organize your digital photos. I've broken down My Pictures folder by years (2006, 2007) and sometimes the year folders into seasons or big events. But my most important tip is to rename all picture file names by date, location or event, and photo number. For example, 0407disney01.jpg means: 0407 = April 2007; disney = location or event; 01 = photo number. The nice thing is that you can create a chronological slideshow easily and know when and where the picture was taken.

Before you go, check for travel and health advisories. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) U.S. government site has lots of info at http://wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/default.aspx. Some hospitals and medical practices offer Travel Clinics, which will give you vaccinations and travel tips for your specific destination and travel itinerary. We visited a travel clinic at our local hospital for a Caribbean Islands trip, got some shots and helpful information.
