mombasics How do you tell your children when their toy has been recalled? 0 Dec 31 2007, 8:48 PM EST by mombasics
Thread started: Dec 31 2007, 8:48 PM EST  Watch
Recently, my daughter's Curious George plush doll was recalled. It was just by chance that I heard about the high lead content in his plastic face while browsing the web on a totally unrelated topic. It was very sad to mail away a beloved toy (but I did receive a $15 refund!).

At first, I thought I'd give her an opportunity to say goodbye to George before I shipped him back to the factory, but I didn't want it to seem like a funeral. So I didn't say anything and she hasn't missed him---yet. But one day soon, I know she'll be looking for George and I don't know what to say. How have you handled this recall business? Got any advice on what to tell the kids?

mombasics Suggestions for multi-cultural, world-aware toys, magazines, etc. 1 Dec 14 2007, 10:12 AM EST by mombasics

Amy wrote: "I really want to raise my kids to be aware of all different kinds of people and cultures, and also to have an awareness/love for social justice, taking care of the earth, etc. I use the word "progressive", I suppose you could replace that with liberal, multicultual, I hope I'm clear about what I mean. I'm just wondering if anyone can suggest websites, message boards, magazines, organizations, etc.? I'm pretty good at finding children's books and music on Amazon.com...but like when you Google "multicultural toys," you don't get great results."
